Professional development from day one

From the moment you walk onto campus for your first day of classes at Herron, your professional development begins.

Your coursework gives you the academic knowledge, skills, and techniques that will prepare you for your future career. But the experiences you acquire on and off campus will take your professional experience to the next level, giving you intangible skills that can transfer from studios, labs, shops, and classrooms to the job market.

Meet with your Herron career advisor

Whether you are considering graduate school or looking for your first job, Abbey Chambers can talk with you about options.

Participate in a work-study program

Work-study is a federally subsidized program that allows departments to hire students in a budget-friendly way. Students receive professional experience and a good hourly wage for their time while departments get extra help with tasks.

Most programs, offices, and departments at Herron are looking to hire mature, reliable, and dedicated work-study students. You can find these opportunities by asking the chair of your department.

You also can find work-study opportunities across campus through the IUPUI Office of Student Employment, or in the community through the Office of Community Work-Study.
