Joan Alpers, MPS, CCLS, ATR-BC, LCAT is a licensed creative arts therapist, child life specialist and sandplay practitioner living in New York State. She has had the pleasure of working with Herron students over zoom since Fall of 2020. She earned her Master of Professional Study from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY in 1989 and was a supervisory student under Art Robbins until 1998. Ms. Alpers has specialized in medically ill children in hospital settings throughout her career and currently directs a Child Life Program for Stony Brook Children’s Hospital on Long Island. Additionally, she supports a private practice working with children and families using Art Therapy and Sandplay. She has a chapter on her approach to treatment in Alpers, J., Working with Children Who Encounter Medical Challenges: A Multimodal Approach.
