Herron galleries

Works of art are continually on view at Herron. Our various exhibition spaces—Eleanor Prest Reese & Robert B. Berkshire Galleries, the Marsh Gallery, the Frank & Katrina Basile Gallery—and our Visiting artist lecture series enable us to present work by students, faculty, and alumni, as well as the work—and campus visits—of prominent contemporary artists from throughout the world.

The mission of the Herron galleries is to contribute to the cultural climate of the city of Indianapolis, the campus of IUPUI and the Herron School of art and design. The galleries, through their ongoing exhibitions, complement and complete the educational goals of the Herron School of Art and Design. The galleries provide a forum for the evolving discussion of contemporary art, design and culture.

To complement its exhibition programs, the galleries cooperate with the school, the university and other cultural institutions to sponsor lectures, workshops, publications and other creative projects.

Together, the galleries at the Herron School of Art and Design fulfill their respective missions through the exhibition of art and design that illuminates contemporary visual and cultural sensibilities developing on local, regional and global levels. Exhibitions of art and design by Herron faculty and students place Herron within these contexts and promote the activities of the school.

As the School’s most public component, the Galleries also recognize the responsibility to attract, welcome and serve the community, and demonstrate a commitment to artistic excellence appropriate to Herron’s long tradition as Indiana’s leading art and design school.
