All prospective Herron students must first be unconditionally admitted to Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Once admitted to the University, the student’s application will be reviewed for admission to Herron.

Admission to Herron is based on a student's previous school record and may also require a visual portfolio.

Please note: All Herron students, except for art history majors, are admitted into either the pre-fine art or pre-art education program. Once a student has completed the pre-fine art or pre-art education program, which includes all Foundation Year courses and at least 9 credit hours of sophomore-level studio coursework, the student will go through a portfolio review process in order to be admitted to a major. Students interested in art history are directly admitted into that program and do not go through a portfolio review process.
