Herron Pre-College

An intensive studio experience for college-bound artists and designers

Launch your path to a dream career during an intensive, comprehensive exploration of visual art at IUPUI Herron School of Art and Design.

Herron Pre-College is a program that immerses high school juniors and seniors, as well as recent graduates, in a studio environment that mirrors the school's first-year foundation studies experience.

Dates: July 19-23, 2021
Grades: 11 through 12 + recent graduates
Location: Online
Times: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (1-hour lunch break included)
Cost: $300

Summer 2021 operations

Herron Community Learning Programs (CLP) is dedicated to the health and safety of its students, instructors, and employees. As a result, CLP sessions this summer will be entirely online. The session fee includes all materials, which will be delivered in the form of art kits.

To ensure that all participants receive an art kit, you must register for Herron Pre-College by Monday, June 21.

CLP will host a virtual gallery of student work every Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Take risks, test theories, and challenge your ideas

Herron Pre-College is designed to help you make the leap from high school to university level education in art and design. The program offers a unique opportunity to develop creative skills and build visual and conceptual abilities, from creative processes in ideation to curating your own exhibition.

This program requires the use of free downloadable apps that are not provided.

Step 1: Complete the application.

The application consists of a few questions and a short essay in which you should explain why you want to attend and what you hope to gain from the experience.

Step 2: Submit a digital portfolio.

Send a single PDF file containing images of your ten best works, as well as titles, mediums, and dimensions, to cole10@iu.edu by June 14. Please use the subject line "Herron Pre-College Portfolio Submission."

Tuition and fees

Tuition (supplies included): $300
Application fee: Not applicable

A $300 tuition fee is due in full by June 21.

Herron provides needs-based scholarships to eligible students and families. Funds are limited and granted on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply, complete our online scholarship application form.
