20th Annual Herron Wearable Art Show Celebrates Student Creativity

The Herron School of Art and Design's Sculpture Club will kick off its 20th Annual Wearable Art Show with an immersive and joyful celebration of student creativity on March 28th at the Eskenazi Fine Arts Center, located at 1410 Indiana Avenue. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the runway show begins at 7 p.m.

The Herron Wearable Art Show includes performance art, wearable sculpture, and a gallery exhibition of student work. Showcasing avant-garde designs and intricate craftsmanship, the event emphasizes the collaborative spirit and focus on innovation that are the hallmarks of the Herron student experience. "The show is special because it's been completely student-run from the start. Everything from the stage and the surroundings are built by students, and every piece in the show is by a student or an alum, says Herron senior and Sculpture Club president Ami Wooten.

The Wearable Art Show celebrates student work and serves as a testament to the power of an education in the arts. Many students, like Wooten and fellow senior and Sculpture Club vice president Walter Egan, find that their experiences working on pieces for the Wearable Art Show mirror their career aspirations. Wooten will pursue an M.F.A. in Art Therapy and Egan has a job lined up after graduation in scenic fabrication at a local museum. He notes that his job will involve doing things similar to what he's done to create his piece for the Wearable Show: "My job will be a lot of building props and replicas. The piece I've created for the show involves sculpting and painting, and the way I've made this is very similar to how I'll be painting realistic replicas of things to look like old artifacts at the museum.
