During the project, the classroom atmosphere is lighter. I assign it early on because it helps me help the students better because whether they know they are or not, they are divulging a ton of information for me and I'm taking it all in. The outcomes are funny because some of them do exactly what they look like… what you see is what you get. But there are some shyer students who perceive themselves as this great entity. People who wouldn't normally dance will dance with their mask on. So, the critiques are hilarious and my conversations with the students are more interesting after that.

HERRON: What hidden talents can you share with us?

FURQUERON: I just asked my wife and daughters this question and they unanimously said, "MAKING FRIED CHICKEN!" While we don't eat it often, it's gone before it hits the plate. I use a modified recipe that my mom taught me.

Aside from that, one of the issues of being an artist and owning a house is that the work never stops. We're using our skills to make a run-of-the-mill brick home into a great living environment for our family. It's a lifestyle.
