Youth Art Camp

Summer art camps for grades 3–6

Herron’s summer camps are designed to seed inspiration, foster curiosity, and channel enthusiasm, turning the wonder of each child’s imagination into objects of invention and creativity.

Art educators and studio artists develop and teach camp lessons at Herron, with the assistance of outstanding Herron undergraduate students. Campers will explore drawing and illustration, design, object making, and digital rendering projects.

Three weeks, lots of big ideas

Each week Youth Art Camp explores a theme that inspires artists, excites youth, and is of interest to the community-at-large.

Art: World Expedition: June 11–15, 2018

Take a trip around the world and discover art from every continent! Campers will be introduced to artists from around the world and work on projects inspired by them! This camp will focus on a variety of creative endeavors, the vast diversity in the arts, and world cultures. Campers will work with drawing, painting, clay and fibers to create their own worldly masterpieces!

Art: In Color: June 11-15, 2018

Life is more fun with color! Campers in Art: In Color will explore the vibrancy and excitement of color. Through a variety of studio projects, campers will learn all about using color to brighten up their creations. From large paintings to tiny sculptures, every camper will find their own splash of color!

Art: Across the Universe: June 18-22, 2018

What would art look like in space? This camp will explore the possibilities! Campers will take on the role as space explorers and galactic artists as we travel through the cosmos and make, make, make along the way! Campers will draw, paint and sculpt their way across the solar system and beyond!

Grades 3-4 and Grades 5-6

Art: Across Time: June 18-22, 2018

Travel across time in this dynamic camp. Campers will experience projects revolving around the earliest art of humans, the renaissance painters of Europe and into the modern day, with much to discover in between. Art: Across Time will merge studio projects and history lessons into fun and exploratory excursions through art’s history.

Art: Illustrate and Animate: June 25-29, 2018

Art: Illustrate and Animate is designed for the young artist who loves drawing, creating characters and experimenting! This camp will explore traditional drawing, digital drawing, and animation. Campers will create colorful illustrations, animated flip books, digital animations and experiment clay and stop motion!

Tuition and financial aid

Youth Art Camp tuition is $300 per week and includes all lab fees, high quality art materials, and museum admission. Siblings, repeat enrollments, and IUPUI employees receive a $20 tuition discount. Extended care hours are available for an additional $60 per week.

Financial assistance is available for families who qualify. A scholarship application that includes short statements from the camper, parent, and an art teacher are required. Qualifying considerations include eligibility for free or reduced lunch and books, or family hardship due to unusual circumstances.
