Art History

Hands-on experience

Herron has a strong connection to regional and local museums and initiatives, allowing for site visits and other opportunities to grow your professional art history skills. Herron students have found internships at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Indiana State Museum, among others.

Extensive research

Art history students carry out research in all its phases, including formulating a question, gathering information using a variety of tools and techniques, critically evaluating information, making an argument, and defending a conclusion in speech and writing.

Art in real life

Through art history, you will learn to recognize perspectives from a range of disciplines in the arts and sciences. You also may find yourself applying visual literacy to make informed and ethical judgments in your own, everyday life.

  • Teaching
  • Museum work
  • Art conservation and restoration
  • Historic preservation
  • Art dealership, auctioneering, and collecting
  • Art criticism and journalism
  • Exhibition design and preparation
