Professor Borgmann was appointed to the fine arts faculty in 1979, and teaches courses in art education pedagogy and critical inquiry skills in the art education program. Her research interests are rooted in the art classroom using semiotic theory to examine how contemporary art practice impacts cognition in youth. She coordinates a service program, Art Talks, with local schools that serves as a teaching mechanism for practice in inquiry skills with youth using contemporary art and issues. Assessment and visual art standards have been an ongoing commitment in her service work in Indiana, and she takes an active role in the state and national professional associations. Her most current research involves integrated curriculum design working with teachers and their students to study the critical impact of art on youth.
