The 2008 MACAA Biennial Conference will be hosted by Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana from October 15-18. The central conference theme is Aggiornamento (uh-jawr-nuh-men-toh), which means "the act of bringing something up-to-date to meet current needs." In contemporary society, educational arts organizations must be agile enough to support innovation and change: altering and upgrading facilities, changing departmental structures, adopting new curricular models and pedagogical approaches, along with an array of other modernizations. But how have we changed? What are the consequences of those changes? And how must we continue adapting to remain current in our ever-changing society? This conference will provide a forum where art educators and professionals can present theories, research and scholarship regarding this exciting, demanding and sometimes problematic process of contemporization. Please note that, while proposals addressing the conference theme are encouraged, this is not a requisite for submission.

Final determinations for Session Proposals was made April 15, 2008 and additional information will be sent to all session applicants soon thereafter.

Herron School of Art and Design is a professional school of Indiana University. Since 1952, Herron has been a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Herron is located on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). IUPUI is one of the two primary campuses of Indiana University (one of the leading research universities in the world). With nearly 30,000 students, IUPUI is itself one of the largest 50 university campuses in the nation, with more graduate and professional students than any other campus in Indiana. IUPUI is located adjacent to downtown Indianapolis, the state Capitol and center for business, culture, tourism, the arts, sports and life sciences research in Indiana.

Indianapolis is known as the Crossroads of America, as more interstate highways bisect the city and state than any other city in the country. The IUPUI campus is adjacent to many of Indiana's major cultural institutions, including the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Indiana Repertory Theater and the Indiana Historical Society. Indianapolis is home to many major museums including the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the Indiana State Museum, the Indianapolis Museum of Art (the seventh largest art museum in the country), and The Children's Museum of Indianapolis (the largest children's museum in the world). The recently founded Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, is a growing fixture in the Indianapolis art scene, and features local, as well as national and international artists.
